Lankford Responds to Biden Administration’s Plan to Prepare for the End of Title 42

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) responds to announcement from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Department of State Secretary Antony Blinken on the Administration’s plan to prepare for the end of Title 42:

“After years of denial, last week, DHS admitted that the immigration system is broken. We are finally seeing a proposal from the Biden Administration to stop the massive flow of migrants across our southwest border that they have encouraged for more than two years,” said Lankford. “The only way to stop the surge of illegal immigration is to enforce the law, which so far, the Administration has been unwilling to do. Oklahoma has been profoundly impacted by Biden’s wide-open border with the dramatic increase in illegal drugs flowing into my state. With Title 42 ending on May 11, the Biden Administration seems to be taking seriously the proposals I have recommended for years.

“However, I am very concerned with the creation of yet another parole program. We are a nation who welcomes legal immigration, but we must also be a nation of law and order.”

In February, Biden announced that all COVID-19 related health emergencies will end on May 11. Lankford has criticized Biden’s handling of Title 42 Authority as it has remained the last line of defense for US Customs and Border Patrol to quickly expel migrants crossing the border illegally. Lankford has called for the Administration to provide a plan before lifting Title 42 authority at the border for months.
