Lankford Votes Against Biden Admin Policy to Hold School Lunch Programs Hostage Over Gender Ideology

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) issued a statement following the Senate vote on the resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to prevent the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) from retaliating against schools that do not comply with the Biden Administration’s progressive gender ideology. The CRA gives Congress the authority to review major rules issued by federal agencies. The resolution failed by a vote of 47-50. 

“The Biden Administration is bullying schools by cutting off food to children if the school will not allow boys in the girls’ bathroom or locker room. Using the free and reduced school lunch program as a bargaining tool for progressive ideology is shameful. Every school administrator wants to help students learn and grow. Respecting the rights of all students, includes respecting the rights of girls that do not want a boy in their bathroom. The Biden Administration’s rule is a brazen attempt to advance its policies at almost any cost—including leaving the thousands of students who rely on free or reduced cost school lunch hungry. Schools should be focused on educating kids—not fighting off attempts from the federal government to indoctrinate them,” said Lankford. 

Senator Lankford cosponsored Senator Roger Marshall’s (R-KS) resolution of disapproval, which was introduced as 22 states, including Oklahoma, filed lawsuits against USDA for weaponizing the lunch funding against those who don’t adhere to the transgender agenda and allow biological boys to use girls’ bathrooms or locker rooms or have biological boys compete against girls in sports. Lankford also raised concerns over the Biden Administration’s decision to limit school lunch access over progressive gender ideology in September of last year as well as the administration’s proposed expansion of Title IX.
