Lankford Joins CBS News, Says Republicans Will Not Support Foreign Aid Package Without Securing US-Mexico Border

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK), lead Republican on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Government Operations and Border Management, joined CBS News’ America Decides to share that, along with his Republican colleagues, Lankford is unwilling to support a national security package that doesn’t secure the US-Mexico border.  

Lankford highlighted earlier this month that Senate Republicans released a proposal to secure the border by removing loopholes exploited by the cartels in the current asylum process. Lankford previously questioned Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during the annual “Threats to the Homeland” hearing in the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee where Mayorkas admitted the loopholes need to be closed. As Senate Democrats continue to say that DHS just needs “more money” to solve the wide open border, Lankford continues to affirm more money alone will not solve our wide open southern border and that instead we need real policy changes that fix asylum and parole.

Lankford on Unwillingness to Support Foreign Aid Without Securing US-Mexico Border:  Our Caucus has been very clear, as recently as today, that we’ve met and said, ‘We’re not going to move to be able to help other countries’ national security and not support this security of the United States of America.’ We have not only responsibility in other countries, we have responsibility right here and right now American national security is being ignored and that’s about to come to an end.
