Lankford on Newsmax Calls Out Biden Admin’s Amnesty EO, Sounds Alarm on Failure to Uphold Conscience Protections for Health Care Professionals

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) joined Newsmax’s Wake Up America to call out the Biden Administration’s deliberate decisions to make the border less secure, including the latest executive action from the White House expected later today. Lankford serves as lead Republican on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Government Operations and Border Management, and he pushed back on President Biden for his sudden attempt to change the narrative on the border just six months before an election. 

Lankford also sounded the alarm on the Biden Administration for failing to uphold conscience protections for health care providers who decline to participate in abortions. Lankford introduced the Conscience Protection Act ahead of the two-year anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

Lankford on Biden’s Executive Action … It is out of touch, and it’s something I’ve said all along. For years I’ve said, ‘We don’t know if people are fleeing from the law or if they’re fleeing from poverty.’ We don’t know because they’re not checking it. They’re not evaluating it. Any criminal check that they’re doing for individuals are actually at the end of the process, years after they’ve been in the country, rather than at the very beginning. This is one of the things that I fought for, was to have that criminal check at the very beginning, and so we can turn people around immediately rather than releasing them into the country. Again, last week, your network widely disseminated the information about eight ISIS suspected individuals that President Biden had allowed into the country, even welcomed into the country…if you want to go back a few months before that, Al-Shabaab terrorists were in the country that they there were then trying to be able to chase down because they had allowed them into the country. This is the Biden pattern: allow as many people who want to be able to come into the border day after day after day, and then if we find out there’s a problem, we’ll go check it later. But that doesn’t help for the families of individuals that have had a loved one murdered. That’s not good news to them. That’s terrible news to them. 

Lankford on Biden Forcing Health Care Workers to Choose Between Conscience or Career … If an individual has a conscience, a moral objection to abortion, they are a health care provider at any level of a health care provider, and they say, ‘I don’t want to participate in the taking of life. I came into medicine to heal and protect life, not take life.’ That person should not be required by their employer to perform an abortion…You have a belief; you are able to live your beliefs in America. What the Biden Administration’s currently saying is, ‘We’re not going to enforce conscience protections.’ By the way, it’s already the law of the United States, not just constitutionally protected in the First Amendment, it’s already the law that you have conscience protections if you are a health care provider. But what this Administration’s doing is they’re saying, ‘We’re not going to enforce the law. We’re just going to look away, and if employers want to compel people against their conscience to perform an abortion, we’re going to allow them to do that even under a threat of being fired. We’re going to allow them to do that.’ Because the government under Biden has a different belief than the individuals. We as a nation are founded on this basic principle: ‘I have a belief I can live my belief. It doesn’t have to line up with the government’s belief.’ So, I’m bringing that to the floor today to be able to bring in and say, this doesn’t take away one abortion in America, but what it does say, is if you are a health care provider, you are not compelled to be able to take life when you went into health care to protect it.
