Lankford Statement on 2,700 page, $1.5 Trillion Funding Bill

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) issued a statement on the House of Representatives introducing the FY 2022 funding bill that is a 2,700-plus-page bill and costs more than $1.5 trillion. Tonight, the Senate passed the bill, which Lankford did not support.

“The budget process in Congress is so broken that only four Members of leadership negotiate a 2,700-plus-page bill that costs more than $1.5 trillion. No Member of Congress will have time to read this bill before voting. This year, only three of the 12 funding bills even made it through Committee in the Senate. This enormous $1.5 trillion bill has absolutely no transparency.

“With American families facing record-high inflation and rising gas prices, taxpayers should not be forced to foot the bill for another trillion-plus-dollar spending bill full of earmarks, mandates, and overspending. This is unacceptable. I will not support this bloated funding bill.”

Lankford supported two amendment votes tonight—to prohibited earmarks, for which Lankford introduced the bill in March of 2021, and to defund President Biden’s overreaching COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Lankford sent a letter earlier this week asking for the vote.
