Lankford A ‘No’ on Continuing Resolution, Again

WASHINGTON, DC –Senator James Lankford (R-OK) issued the following statement after the Democrats’ continuing resolution (CR) passed the Senate. While the latest version does not include raising the debt ceiling, Lankford has been clear that we must make real reforms to address Congress’s spending process and our ballooning national debt, and this bill does not do that: 

“Today is the annual deadline for Congress to pass funding for the next fiscal year. Once again there was no debate about how to control our spending or how to change our fiscal course. To date, out of the 12 appropriations bills that need to be passed, none of them have had a single vote on the Senate floor, not one. Democrats have spent their time on a reckless tax and spending spree which will accelerate our growing national debt. The spending has to stop.”

On Monday, Lankford voted no on the continuing resolution, which included a debt limit increase. Earlier this month, Lankford introduced the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act of 2021, which would take government shutdowns off the table by setting up an automatic CR if government funding has not been enacted on time and require Congress to stay in town until all funding bills are passed and signed into law.
