Lankford Opposes OMB Deputy Director Because She Would Compel American’s to Pay for Abortions

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today opposed the nomination of Shalanda Young to be deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Lankford spoke about Ms. Young directly expressing her support for taxpayer funding of abortion by eliminating the long-standing Hyde amendment during a business meeting to consider her nomination before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Her comments were in response to Lankford’s post-hearing questions for the record.

“Ms. Young’s desire to force Americans to pay for abortions is concerning. We may not all agree on the issue of life, but we should agree that no taxpayer’s hard-earned money should go toward abortion. Her statements for the record clearly show she does not plan to enforce current law but to impose partisan beliefs on Americans. This is exactly why Oklahomans get frustrated with DC—they make decisions for them and tell them how to think. The majority of Oklahomans do not support having their tax dollars going toward funding abortion.”
