Lankford Votes in Homeland Security Committee to Support Chad Wolf to Lead DHS

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today voted in favor of the confirmation of Chad Wolf to serve as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) during a Business Meeting of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Wolf began serving as Acting Secretary of DHS in November 2019. President Trump nominated Acting Secretary Wolf to serve as Secretary on August 27, 2020.

“I believe Chad Wolf will serve our nation well as the Secretary of DHS, and I look forward to continuing to work with him to combat terrorism, secure the border, protect our communities, and ensure the safety of our families,” said Lankford. “DHS remains a vital component to our nation’s federal law enforcement. In numerous hearings Acting Secretary Wolf has been direct and informative to our Committee about the facts on the ground facing our nation’s men and women in law enforcement, and he has done so amid partisan vitriol and misinformation reported in the media. I look forward to the Senate’s vote to confirm him to this important role in the near future.”

Lankford has questioned Acting Secretary Wolf on a variety of DHS-related actions over the past year. In February Lankford questioned Wolf on drug enforcement and interdiction at our nation’s border. Lankford also asked for additional work on the H2-B visa process and protection of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) when building border barrier fencing. On August 6, following the violent protests in Portland, Oregon, Lankford directly asked Acting Secretary Wolf about insinuations or assumptions of federal law enforcement’s behavior and conduct surrounding these protests and whether some of the rumors circulating in the media are true. On September 23, Lankford questioned Acting Secretary Wolf during his nomination hearing about ongoing unrest in US cities and protecting our US-Mexico border.
