Lankford, Inhofe Introduce Senate Resolution Honoring General Tom Stafford

WASHINGTON, DC– US Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Jim Inhofe (R-OK) this week introduced a Senate Resolution honoring the accomplishments and recognizing the 90th birthday of fellow Oklahoman, General Thomas P. Stafford. The resolution passed unanimously on the Senate floor today.

“Ninety years ago, Oklahoma welcomed an American pioneer in space exploration and policy,” said Lankford. “General Tom Stafford has lived a life dedicated to serving our nation, leading the United States in the Space Race, and serving in our Armed Forces, NASA, and within the executive branch of the federal government. I join my fellow Oklahomans and colleagues in celebrating and honoring General Stafford on his 90th birthday. Thank you for all your service to our nation. American leadership in space would look vastly different without your service and contributions.” 

“I cannot think of a more deserving individual to be recognized than my good friend Tom,” Inhofe said. “Tom has led a life of service, advancing our world and making it a better place. He was an Air Force test pilot, piloted the Gemini VI, and commanded the Gemini IX and the Apollo 10 missions, as well as the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. He has served in multiple military leadership roles, including commander of the Air Force Test Flight Center at Edwards Air Force Base and Air Force Deputy Chief of Staff for Research, Development, and Acquisition. Upon retirement, he has continued to advise NASA on lunar and Mars missions. Tom, we thank you for your lifetime of service to your country and the world. Happy Birthday.”
