Lankford Praises DOT Funding to Fix Historic Bridge Crossing Canadian River

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) praised the announcement made by the Department of Transportation (DOT) that they have awarded Oklahoma a grant for $22,000,000 to reconstruct a bridge on US Highway 281 (historic Route 66) which crosses over the Canadian River between Canadian and Caddo Counties. In May, Lankford sent a letter to DOT Secretary Elaine Chao in support of the application from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

“The historic bridge crossing the Canadian River urgently needs repairs. I’m grateful for the DOT’s decision to meet our request for assistance with restoring the bridge. The updates will allow for heavier trucks, tourists, and local traffic while maintaining the historical elements of the original Route 66 pavement and iconic 38 pony truss spans. It is important for the community and the state, and I’m glad we were able to get this done.”
