Senator Lankford Designates Week of May 5th Public Service Recognition Week

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK), ahead of Public Service Recognition Week, designates May 5th through 11th as “Public Service Recognition Week” to honor employees of federal, state, and local governments, and members of the uniformed services. The resolution (S. Res 180) commends these public servants for their service, honors those who have given their lives for their country, and calls upon the next generation to consider careers in public service, and encourages efforts to promote public service careers at all levels of government.

“Public Service Recognition Week gives our country an opportunity to pause and thank the many government workers across Oklahoma and the nation for their commitment to serving others,” said Lankford. “Civil servants support our military, provide essential care for veterans, keep our airports safe and running smoothly, along with many other important jobs that help our nation function daily. Today and every day we are grateful for the way they serve each and every one of us.”

As Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management, which oversees the federal workforce, Lankford leads efforts to make the federal government more efficient and effective. This includes supporting the federal workforce. The resolution maintains that the Senate “supports efforts to promote an efficient and effective public service that serves the people of the United States.” This was an addition requested by Senator Lankford in 2017 and has remained a part of the resolution for the last two years.

Lankford has served as the chairman of the HSGAC subcommittee since 2015. During his time as chairman, he has focused on improving the federal workforce, reducing government waste and duplication, and removing regulatory burdens to encourage economic growth. Earlier this year, Lankford introduced the fourth volume of Federal Fumbles: Ways the federal government dropped the ball, which highlights initiatives he has worked during his chairmanship.
