WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today met with President Trump’s nominee for Attorney General (AG) of the United States, William Barr. On December 7, 2018, President Trump announced his intention to nominate Barr to fill the vacancy after the resignation of former AG Jeff Sessions:

“I was glad to get an opportunity today to meet with President Trump’s nominee for Attorney General of the United States, William Barr.  Mr. Barr is an accomplished attorney who previously served as the Attorney General under President George H.W. Bush. He has consistently demonstrated his commitment to fair and accountable justice in our nation. We had the opportunity to discuss several important issues including his support for local law enforcement, the rule of law, religious liberty, the Second Amendment, and the complexities of the immigration-case backlog. Additionally, Mr. Barr reaffirmed his support for the independence and full resolution of the Mueller investigation, which is ultimately good for the American people and the office of the President. I am impressed by Mr. Barr’s qualifications, experience, and knowledge on the wide range of issues he will be responsible for at the Department of Justice. I look forward to supporting his nomination when it comes to a vote of the full Senate in the next few weeks.”
