Senator Lankford Statement on Release of Senate Tax Reform Plan
WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today released the following statement on the release of a Senate tax reform plan:
“Tax reform provides an opportunity to kick-start our stagnant economy, provide tax relief to millions of hardworking American families, and simplify our complicated tax code. Today’s Senate Republican tax proposal is a starting point for us. In the coming weeks, I expect a vigorous debate in Committee and on the floor of the Senate. Historically, the American economy has grown at three percent or more a year, on average. In the last ten years, economic growth has collectively averaged under two percent, and last year, our GDP was only 1.5 percent for the year. That means the economy is growing at not even half of its historic potential, which is completely unacceptable. It has been 30 years since our tax code was addressed—we should keep working until we provide tax relief and the economic jump start we need. As we work on tax relief, we must also not lose sight of our responsibilities to protect the nation, provide basic government services, and confront our federal debt.”
This morning, Senator Lankford discussed tax reform on the Hugh Hewitt national radio show.
