Senator Lankford Applauds President Trump ‘Waters of the United States’ Executive Order
WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today applauded President Trump’s executive order to revise and unwind the President Obama-era ‘Waters of the United States’ (WOTUS) regulation. The Executive Order requires the EPA and other applicable departments to review the WOTUS rule and ensure it promotes economic growth and minimizes regulatory uncertainty. The EO also requires agencies to rescind or revise aspects of WOTUS that are incompatible with this new policy guidance.
“We must protect America’s navigable waters, but the EPA shouldn’t be involved in isolated ponds, ditches, or puddles that only appear after rain storms. I applaud the President’s Executive Order calling for a revision of this rule; it provides hope that the federal-state governing balance of water rules will be restored, and that only actual ‘navigable waters’ will fall under the purview of the federal government. Congress must still take action to fix the regulation, so future administrations can’t force an extreme interpretation of water regulation on our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities.”
