Senators Lankford and Inhofe Support Dr. David Shulkin for Secretary of Veterans Affairs

WASHINGTON, DC — Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Jim Inhofe (R-OK) today praised the confirmation of Dr. David Shulkin as Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The full Senate overwhelmingly supported his confirmation, voting 100-0 to confirm him to the position.

“Veterans deserve first-class healthcare,” said Lankford. “Veterans tell me that they want to choose their healthcare provider and I want to give them that choice. I’m pleased that Dr. Shulkin and I agree that the VA should focus on foundational services and leverage the local communities to provide our veterans specialty care. Dr. Shulkin’s skills and experience make him the perfect choice to lead the VA and achieve choice for our veterans.”

“Ensuring the best possible medical care for our nation’s veterans has been one of my top priorities since I joined the Congress,” said Inhofe. “Confirming Dr. Shulkin for this key position is a great step toward revitalizing VA leadership and assuring veterans the access and quality of care they deserve.”

“Dr. Shulkin brings to this job a wealth of experience in the highest echelons of private healthcare management, as well as recent experience in the VA as undersecretary of health,” Inhofe continued. “He is, by all accounts, a brilliant physician and an effective manager who understands the intricacies of healthcare policy and implementation. More importantly, he cares deeply about our nation’s veterans and has demonstrated an admirable willingness to serve.”
