Senator Lankford Meets with Director of National Intelligence Nominee Dan Coats

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today met with former Senator Dan Coats (R-IN), President Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as the Director of National Intelligence.

“Dan and I served together in the Senate and on the Senate Intelligence Committee; he is a great colleague and friend,” said Lankford. “Dan understands the national security threats currently facing our nation and the solutions needed to thwart them. He will serve our nation well as the Director of National Intelligence, and I look forward to supporting his nomination in the days ahead.”

Coats was appointed as the US Senator from Indiana in 1989, filling the vacated seat of Dan Quayle following his election as Vice President of the United States. He was elected in 2011 to serve a second term in the Senate until his retirement in 2017. During his tenure in the Senate, he served on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. Coats was also a member of the US House of Representatives, serving Indiana’s fourth district, from 1981-1989. He served as US Ambassador to Germany from 2001 to 2009.

Lankford serves on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
