Senator Lankford Supports Confirmation of Homeland Security Secretary Nominee General John Kelly

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today questioned President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to be the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, General John F. Kelly (Ret., USMC) during his nomination hearing before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. 

“With all the instability around the world, we need a strong leader at the helm of the Department of Homeland Security,” said Lankford. “With Gen. Kelly’s background, he provides the essential experience needed to direct an agency that deals with a multitude of important immigration, cybersecurity, and national security issues. I will proudly support his nomination to be Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.”

Gen. Kelly first enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1970, spent four decades in the military, and eventually retired as a four-star general. As Commander of U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), Gen. Kelly oversaw U.S. military operations in Central and South America and the Caribbean.

Lankford has served on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee since 2015.
