Senator Lankford Opposes Continuing Resolution

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today issued the following statement on the Continuing Resolution (H.R. 2028), which keeps current FY2017 spending levels through April 28, 2017:

“The federal government has a commitment to the American people to serve them and use taxpayer dollars wisely, and Oklahomans’ expectations are no different. In one year, the government has dropped the ball and racked up another half-a-trillion-dollar deficit—on top of the already devastating $19 trillion-dollar debt. To continue to fund the government through a CR, Congress has relegated the debate to nothing more than an on-off switch. This irresponsible budgeting process precludes any possibility for Congress to eliminate the waste identified in my ‘Federal Fumbles’ report. Our national debt is a problem that needs to be addressed now. Congress needs to finish this year’s work, rather than punt it into next year.”

In November, Lankford released the second annual federal waste and solution report entitled, “Federal Fumbles: 100 ways the government dropped the ball.” Lankford has also pushed for major reforms for the Senate budget process.
