Midwest City Fire Department Awarded SAFER Grant

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Jim Inhofe (R-OK) and Congressman Tom Cole (R-04) released statements following the announcement that the Midwest City Fire Department will receive a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA). SAFER grants are distributed to local fire departments across the country to ensure they are staffed at all times and meet industry-minimum standards. This grant funding will enable the Midwest City Fire Department to add three firefighters to its force.

“I am grateful for the hard work of the Midwest City Fire Department’s team to serve our community,” said Lankford. “Midwest City has worked for years to utilize available resources for first responders to help ensure they are as prepared as possible to serve the needs of Midwest City and to provide support for Tinker Air Force Base if needed. The SAFER and Assistance to Firefighters grant (AFG) programs are incredibly competitive since so many departments are in need of support around the nation. These grant programs help ensure our local first responders can serve as the first line of defense in a national emergency or terrorist act. I’m proud that Midwest City is working to stand ready to serve.”

I am encouraged that the fire department will be able to use this important funding to improve response capacity and keep our communities even safer in cases of emergency.”
