Senator Lankford Applauds Confirmation of Dr. Ben Carson as Housing and Urban Development Secretary

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today supported the confirmation of Dr. Ben Carson as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

“I am pleased to support Dr. Carson’s confirmation to serve as Secretary of HUD,” said Lankford. “Dr. Carson will work to transition HUD into an agency that helps people escape poverty, rather than just survive in it. His personal rise out of poverty and genuine love for people will serve the nation well in this position.”

Lankford met with Dr. Carson on January 17 to discuss his vision for HUD. For years, Dr. Carson led The Johns Hopkins University Department of Pediatric Neurosurgery. Dr. Carson also created an education foundation, and has served on the boards of major companies, including Costco and Kellogg. 

Senator Lankford is a member of the Senate Opportunity Coalition, which seeks to identify and explore policy solutions to poverty.
