Senator Lankford Statement on Security Incident at Capitol
WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK), chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch, made the following statement on today’s security incident at the United States Capitol:
“We’re extremely grateful for the women and men who serve in our United States Capitol Police force. Today was yet another example of how they keep Members of Congress, the four thousand people who work here, and the millions of people who visit the complex, safe every single day. A security threat on the Capitol is a threat against our democracy—the US Capitol Police is at the forefront of defending this great institution.”
The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Legislative Branch maintains jurisdiction over the agencies of the Legislative Branch of government, including the Capitol Police, House of Representatives, Senate, Library of Congress, Congressional Budget Office, and Government Accountability Office, among others. Lankford also serves on the Senate Intelligence Committee and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
