Senator Lankford Supports Biotech Labeling Bill

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today released the following statement after the Senate failed to invoke cloture on the Biotechnology Labeling Solutions Act of 2016 (S. 2609):

“The USDA, the EPA and the FDA already test and monitor to ensure the food Americans consume through the genetic engineering process is safe and has been thoroughly studied. This bill is an additional voluntary measure that will provide farmers, manufacturers and retailers a clear, consistent definition of the bioengineering labeling process and provide more transparency for consumers. It’s unfortunate the Senate was unable to come together to at least debate the merits of this bill, but our farmers, producers and consumers need clarity. I hope in the days ahead we will be able to come to an agreement and pass a bill that is best for the American people.”
